Everything You Need To Know!
At Fine Photography, we specialise in custom photography sessions. Our Family Portrait photo shoots and Newborn sessions take approximately two hours and our Signature Style Children Portraits usually take around an hour.
If you are in the midst of trying to decide on a professional photographer and planning your photography session, whether it’s for your newborn baby or for a family portrait sitting, you have probably come across the term ‘Mini Session’.
Yes, they are less expensive than a traditional family portrait session but there are a number of differences to be aware of before you book your photography session.
This is what you need to know to help you decide which type of photo shoot suits your needs:
This is the number one difference between the two types of photo shoots, and it is an important one in my mind.
During a custom photography session, your photographer will spend between one and two hours with you, ensuring they get all the shots they require plus give you (and any little people) time for breaks.
Mini Sessions tend to be a quick session of between 20 – 30 minutes at most and photographers will generally book several sessions in one day.
A Number of Looks
As a custom photography session lasts much longer, the time allows for a number of different looks within the given time frame booked.
Our photographer takes the time to guide and position you to ensure we get you looking your best.
A Mini Session offers much less time, so your photographer will use their skills to capture as many candid moments as possible in a shorter period of time.
Due to the time restriction with Mini Sessions, there is no time for outfit changes and therefore your images have a consistent look.
During a custom photography session, at least one or two outfit changes are accommodated and therefore a variety of different looks can be achieved during the one photo session.
Number of photos
A Custom Session usually generates between 30 – 40 images, while a Mini Session will generally give you about 10. Bearing in mind that all photographers work differently, and these image numbers may vary depending on the photographer.
There is usually minimal retouching or editing of photos taken during a Mini Session, while after a custom photo session, some photographers will meticulously retouch until they are happy with the end result.
